Synopsis:

Celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the POPULAR BookFest@Singapore 2016 will run from 2 - 11 December in Halls 401 to 406 at Suntec Singapore Convention Centre, expecting more than 600,000 visitors from all over Singapore. The event is the largest it has ever been, with the activity space increased from 120,000 square feet in 2015 to 130,000 square feet to provide customers with an elevated shopping experience.

BookFest@Singapore 2016 will also offer wholesome activities categorised under Health and Wellness, For the Kids, Arts and Culture, Authors and Celebrities, Family Fun, and Food Glorious Food for the entire family, whether you are a parent, teenager, preschool or primary school child, senior, book lover, educator or working professional.

For the Kids
Fun with Pororo and Petty
Get up close and personal with the famous Korean Penguins, Pororo and Petty as they say hello to their little fans on the 11 December 2016 from 10.30am – 11.30am. Expect a fun-filled hour of activities from snapping photos and dancing with the mascots to balloon sculpting and Pororo-themed cupcakes. Kids who love colouring can hone their creativity at the Pororo and Petty colouring station. Participation is free on a first-come-first-served basis via www.bookfestsingapore.com/registerhere and receive a goodie bag worth $22.

Meet MOJI the MOSH!Cot
See your little ones’ artwork come to life at the World of Wonder Paper App Colouring Station with MOSH! and snap photos with MOJI the MOSH!Cot on 10 December 2016, from 12.30pm - 1.30pm. Kids can indulge in MOSH!-themed cupcakes while enjoying colouring activities and watch as their creation bounce and float across the digital screen. All participants will also receive a goodie bag worth $24. Participation is free on a first-come-first served basis via www.bookfestsingapore.com/registerhere.

There will also be exciting children meet-and-greet sessions featuring Geronimo Stilton and even the big and ferocious dinosaurs from Zoo-rassic Park, the latest addition at the Singapore Zoo this December.

Journey: Our Homeland Colouring Contest
POPULAR encourages creativity in young children, and its much-loved programme, The Journey Colouring Contest, is one of the key highlights every year. With overwhelming interest since its inception in 2014, it will be returning for the third time to the delight of kids everywhere. This year, the colouring contest will use pages from the comic book version of The Journey: Our Homeland, 《信约:我们的家园》, which is the final season in MediaCorp’s nation-building trilogy, The Journey. Children can create their own masterpieces through colouring while learning about moral values such as honesty, responsibility and resilience, which are reflected in the book. The contest is open to children aged nine and below, and 18 lucky participants stand a chance to win up to $1500 worth of prizes. Those interested may register at all POPULAR bookstores with a fee of $8, and receive a goodie bag worth $25 each.

For The Fans
The Great Hall Christmas Party
Harry Potter fans young and old will get a chance to dress up as their favourite character and engage in entertaining activities at four Harry Potter-themed game stations. Registration is at $5 and each participant will receive a goodie bag worth $10 and a $5 cash voucher.

Exclusive Liang Wern Fook Music Showcase
The famous Singaporean singer/songwriter Liang Wern Fook (梁文福) who was a pioneer of the Xinyao movement will be having a closed-door music showcase and an autograph session for his loyal fans on 10 December. Only those who purchase his latest album will stand a chance to gain entry to the showcase, where they will be treated to his best-known hits penned for Cantonese and Mandarin pop stars such as Jacky Cheung and Andy Lau.

Arts and Culture
Si He Yuan (四合院)
Chou Sing Chu Foundation, a non-profit organisation promoting Chinese culture/education/language, will be presenting At Home with Words (字在人家), a bilingual exhibition offering engaging interactions like press print and calligraphy trial in a traditional “Si He Yuan” (四合院).

National Chinese Creative Reading Competition
Lovers, teachers and students of the Chinese language can witness the Finals of the National Chinese Creative Reading Competition (NCCRC) at BookFest@Singapore 2016. With the aim of promoting Chinese language learning and mastery and to increase students’ awareness and understanding of the rich Chinese culture and heritage, the competition is open to lower primary, upper primary and secondary students, who can choose from among 50 books from each category to compete. It will take place on 6 December, 2pm - 5pm.

POPULAR Readers’ Choice Awards
In line with POPULAR’s vision of a thriving literary scene in Singapore, the Readers’ Choice Awards returns for its fifth year with 30 local authors nominated for the awards in the English and Chinese categories. The prize presentation ceremony will be held on 3 December at 10am, where the top three winners from each category will receive prizes worth up to $2250, a plaque and certificate. Additionally, the “Citibank Book Cover award” will also be presented to the publisher with the best cover design, based on an assessment of the use of graphics, creativity and visual impact.

For The Family
Two new contests, designed for quality family-bonding, will be held for the first time at BookFest@Singapore 2016.

At the Titbits Challenge, 20 families will get an opportunity to win Bienen Baron products and prizes worth more than $600. There is also the Ironing Competition which is also open to 16 families, who will each take home a Panasonic iron worth $89.90 and a $50 POPULAR cash voucher as Top Prize. In conjunction with the 10th Anniversary celebrations, visitors can snag an array of $10 special-priced items. And the rewards don’t end there, there will also be two lucky draws this year to thank customers for their unwavering support. The Win-Win Lucky Draw will take place on 4th December where 25 winners will walk away with $10,000 worth of cash. Also, to further reward our customers, winners of The Grand Draw on 11 December, will be presented with gold bars worth up to $10,000.
